The Foundation Certificate enables the trainee to gain insight into the industry and learn practical skills specific to arboriculture. As a graduate of the Foundation Certificate in Arboriculture, you will be able to understand safe working practices in arboriculture and undertake a variety of arboricultural tasks with confidence.

Training through Telford

Horttraining NZ Ltd provides its arboricultural training under the Telford Rural Polytechnic banner. Telford Rural Polytechnic is a training organisation situated in Balclutha (about an hour south of Dunedin). Telford has been providing training for almost forty-five years and is now one of the leading national providers of specialist training in NZ.

The course will also be offered at central locations around New Zealand.
 

How long is the course?

The course is four weeks in duration, with approximately 40 hours of learning per week. It will be delivered with a combination of Supervised Learning, Work Experience and Self Directed Learning.

What will I study?

This course is made up of NZQA Unit Standards, including units on: Health and Safety, Chainsaw Use, Knowledge of the Arboriculture Industry, Communication, Plant Identification, Arboricultural Equipment, and Traffic Management. There will also be Telford Learning Modules on Tree Climbing and ground based arboricultural support activities.
